In the 1960s and 70s, people from Saurashtra began migrating to Surat in search of livelihood, finding work primarily in the textile and diamond industries. Known for their unity, simplicity, and dedication to community, they gradually settled in large numbers, laying the foundation for a strong and connected Saurashtrian presence in the city.
The Patel community from Saurashtra, having settled in Surat in large numbers—mainly in the diamond, textile, embroidery, and construction industries—saw a growing need for social unity. In response, community leaders formed Shri Saurashtra Patel Seva Samaj Surat in 1983, focusing on group marriage planning and community development.
